WORKSITE PROTECTION

Zone 2 hot work habitats

Pressurised welding habitats that allow hot work to be carried out safely in Zone 2 hazardous areas. Positive-pressure fresh-air ventilation, gas detection and automatic shutdown, with a safety system designed for ATEX-certified safety components. Standard 3 x 3 x 2 m or custom sizes, available to order for rental or sale. Contact us for lead time.

THE APPLICATION

Treat the habitat as a complete worksite system

A hot work habitat encloses the immediate work area. The design brief needs to cover its envelope, air supply, pressure control, gas monitoring, access and the work that will take place inside. Welding fumes and other process emissions also require an appropriate ventilation approach.

PS Technology offers Zone 2 hot work habitat systems for project-specific applications. Equipment selection, operating philosophy, testing and site acceptance must be established against the worksite risk assessment and permit process. The habitat does not replace those controls.

PS Technology supplies pressurised hot work habitats, also called welding habitats or hot work enclosures, for maintenance and modification work on live plants, rigs and vessels. Each habitat is tested in-house before delivery.

Is positive pressure alone enough for hot work?

No. Pressurisation is one element of a wider safety arrangement. Air quality, gas monitoring, ventilation for the work process, alarms and the site permit conditions also need to be addressed.

APPLICATIONS

Typical applications

  • Welding, grinding and cutting in Zone 2 hazardous areas
  • Maintenance and modification work on live process plants
  • Offshore platforms, drilling rigs and FPSOs
  • Shipyard and marine hot work
  • Shutdown and turnaround work

Worksite details to resolve

  1. Work envelope

Define equipment size, access, openings and the duration of the hot work.

  2. Air and monitoring

Specify clean-air source, pressure philosophy, gas detection and fume management.

  3. Site integration

Confirm area classification, utilities, alarms and permit requirements.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a hot work habitat?

A pressurised enclosure placed around a welding or cutting job in a hazardous area. Fresh air keeps the inside at positive pressure so flammable gas cannot enter, and gas detection shuts down the hot work if conditions become unsafe.

Can I rent a hot work habitat in Singapore?

Yes. Our habitats are available to order for rental or sale. Contact us for lead time.

What size are your habitats?

Our standard habitat is 3 x 3 x 2 m. We can build custom sizes to suit the job.

What gas detection is included?

Flammable gas detection as standard, with chemical / toxic gas detection available. Detection is linked to automatic shutdown of the hot work equipment.

Is the habitat certified?

The safety system is designed for ATEX-certified safety components, and each habitat is tested in-house before delivery. The habitat is used under the site's hot work permit and risk assessment, which it does not replace.
